Going to the Highest Bidder

I'm not quite sure what Gavin did but I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the destruction of one of Tanner's Lego creations.
Poor Gavie, I found these slips of paper along with about 30 of their counterparts spread out all over the two stories of our home and in the elevator commons outside the condo.
If you look close enough you can see that Tanner drew broken hearts with cracks down the center. Am I a bad parent for secretly laughing at the passion he put into this "Kid for Sal" project or a good parent for having Tanner pick them all up and promising to never try to sell his brother again?
(Hmmmm... Unless of course there's a way for Paul & I to get a 60/40 cut... Just kidding Gavie, love you!!!)

Spooky Treat

Every year The Bahrain School has a "build your own spooky cake contest" and all the cakes donated are used for the cake walk at the school Halloween Carnival. The carnival is the school's largest fund raiser and the cakes go like, well, hot cakes (hee-hee)!
There is a caveat however... the cakes have to made & decorated by the students and all decorations must be completely eatable.
I have to admit I helped Tanner construct the graham cracker haunted house but he decorated it all by himself.
This is what the final product looked like!
Scary Good, right? ;)

Trunk OR Treat

A group of parents on base got together and decided it would be a crime to rob our children of the Halloween tradition of Trick OR Treating!

Being that all our homes are spread out over the top 1/3 of the Kingdom, the concept of neighborhood Trick OR Treating is nearly impossable. The base was nice enough to tape off a section of the parking lot to let the kids Trunk OR Treat off the back end of our vehicles.

We were surprised to see how the word spread and over 40 vehicles attended! I'm pretty sure the number will double next year, here are a few pics of Tanner and a few of his friends.

The Magic Disappearing Apple!

This is all that's left when Gavin is "done" eating his Granny Smith.
One could easily loose a finger if they try to intervene on behalf of the apple...
Can I get a "WOOOOHOOOOO" for fiber?!?!? (LAUGH!)
Good till the (VERY) last bite!

Forget MADD, this one's for the Dads!

As parents of two boys this shirt would never apply to us directly but I was raised with a whole slew of sisters and I get the distinct impression that my Dad would have worn this shirt with pride!

Just too funny, how could I not share this!
Love ya Daddy!

These are a few of his FAVORITE things!

Gavin is one BUSY little guy so you can forget the "Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes" and there's no room for "silver white winters that melt into spring"... however he'll take your "schnitzel with noodles"! ;)

First Day of First Grade!

Tanner was excited to start his second year at The Bahrain School this past September.

He was happy to hear many of his friends from Kindergarden would be in his new class! He was lucky to stay in the same classroom as the previous year. For the next few months he would have his new teacher, Ms. Lindsy to guide him through the day.

What a BEAUTIFUL day to start a new year of school!
No school year could begin without a cool new backpack!
The force is strong in this one!
Happy First Day of School T-Man!
XOXOXO, Mama

The Tooth Fairy Is Broke!

Our sweet Tanner seemed to be in the business of collecting teeth.

He had so many that the sharks in the Pacific Ocean considered moving to Bahrain to hang with their newest hero, Toothy Tanner!
The dentist assured the worried parents of one Tanner Flusche that he would be fine and that the tiny baby teeth would work their way out on their own: NO dental intervention necessary.

To be honest we had our doubts.
Then one day Tanner had enough, he resolved to pull it out so his "Big Boy Teeth" could have some room. Tough-Guy pulled it out at school and enjoyed the trip to the nurse's office to claim his plastic tooth-keeper necklace with pride.
That's one tiny tooth!
Mommy made this cute quilted tooth pillow so Tanner could leave his contribution to the Tooth Fairy securely under his pillow at bed time.
The next morning Tanner was excited to find the gift left behind by the Tooth Fairy!
The Tooth Fairy left $3.00 in the pocket of the pillow which is so much more that the measly 25 cents she used to leave Tanner's Mommy when she was a girl! ;)
Tanner asked why she left U.S. Dollars instead of Bahraini Dinar to which I explained that clearly the Tooth Fairly must be American! (LAUGH!)
Loosing a tooth was so much fun that Tanner decided to do it again the next day.
Two teeth in two days, Geeesh!
The school nurse was beginning to think he was desperate to get out of class.
Less than a month later Tanner enlisted the assistance of a Granny Smith apple to do the dirty work.
Shortly thereafter the forth tooth came out with a lot of wiggling!

If that's not the look of pure JOY and PRIDE, I don't know what is!
Now all he want's for Christmas is his two front teeth! ;)

Christmas @ Ramadan

During Ramadan, a gal could go crazy trying to keep herself busy while trying to escape the sweltering August Bahrain heat.

I found myself indoors quite a bit so I decided to put my quilting skills to use and complete the Christmas quilt I had been meaning to make for the last two years. (Procrastination much? LAUGH!)

The kids both gave it the "Snuggle Seal Of Approval" and I managed to survive the boredom bug yet again! ;)

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" (even though it was nearly 130 degrees outside), "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow"!

I feel like we have become "regulars" at the Gulf Hotel, first Ramadan, then Octoberfest and now the Navy Ball ;) We enjoyed getting "all dolled up" and hanging out with the squadron to celebrate the US Navy's 236th Birthday!
