Spring Break 2010

To celebrate Tanner's 19 day Spring Break (yes, you read that correctly - 19DAYS!) we decided to trade one island for another! The family packed our beach gear and resort wear and drove to Al Dur to catch the hour and ten minute ferry boat to Hawar Island. Hawar Island is part of Bahrain but very close to Qatar.

The pools were a special treat for the boys. Tanner's swimming skills returned to him right away and we realized our little Gavie is quite the fish! Both the boys played in the pools until their lips turned blue and fingers shriveled up like raisins!

The family enjoyed swimming in each of the four pools, looking for seashells, riding the water slides (Gavin too!), swinging on the swing sets, playing on the beach and relaxing while taking a nap in the sun!

A few weeks ago I realized that we don't have a family portrait with all four of us. I was determined to get a beautiful photo of the whole family with the ocean in the background... we had the location, the cute coordinated outfits, the sunset - all we lacked was an experienced photographer. Only a few turned out but a few is all we really need, right?

Our evening was spent dining poolside looking out over the sea. We feasted on local favorites like corn soup, taboule, butter (curry) chicken, lamb and mutable with Turkish bread. Four special guests joined us on the dance floor! Tanner enjoyed dancing with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, Gavin cut a rug with Tom and Jerry!

The boys truly had a marvelous time and can't wait to return! We have decided to take the Aebis and Childers with us when we return... THE AMERICANS ARE TAKING OVER: the locals won't know what hit their island! I'm counting the days! :)
